In 2005, Gayla was contracted by Turning Leaf Wines to serve as a spokesperson for the Leafscapes: Edible Urban Gardening events. Gayla designed and set up seasonal edible container gardens in various locations across the United States and took attendees through the process of planting up windowsill herb gardens and growing the edible plants highlighted at each event.
The Chicago event was held in May 2006 and featured edible plants that could be grown indoors alongside creative plantings of fascinating, non-edible houseplants. All plants were later donated to local innercity public schools for use in classroom teaching and beautification.
